The first meeting of the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative committee was held at MTI-HMC with the aim to protect, promote and support breastfeeding within the hospital premises and to make the hospital baby friendly for the healthcare staff of HMC.
It was decided to provide a dedicated space as a “Breastfeeding Room” for the healthcare staff, schedule training for the staff on Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, and modify the policies keeping in view the initiative.
The BFHI committee of the hospital trained 164 staff members on this initiative so far and the process is still going on. To evaluate the progress of BFHI and seek suggestions to improve it further quarterly meetings will be conducted.
The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the BFHI committee MTI-HMC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aqeel Khattak. Salma Khatoon Nutrition Officer UNICEF, Medical Director MTI-HMC Prof. Dr. Shahzad Akbar, Hospital Director Dr. Shahzad Faisal, Nursing Director Awal Khan, Co-Chairperson of the BFHI MTI-HMC Asst Prof. Dr. Madiha Iqbal, members of the committee Shahrukh Yar, Saniya Meraj Clinical Nutritionist, and other staff members of the Pediatric Department of MTI-HMC attended the meeting.
