Khyber Girls Medical College is the 1st Public Sector Medical College for girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which came into existence in May 2004 as a Girls Campus of KMC Peshawar in PDA Building Hayatabad. It was declared as an independent college in December, 2005, and is recognized by Pakistan Medical Commission - PMC (Pakistan Medical & Dental Council - PMDC as previously) In December 2008.
1st Batch was admitted in April 2005, consisting of 40 students on open merit from amongst the joint merit list of public sector medical colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province and 10 students on self-finance foreign national through Economic Affairs Division, Higher Education Commission Islamabad. The Batch 2005 has reached Final Year and commissioned in 2010.
Hayatabad Medical Complex is the Teaching Hospital of the college, which is at a short distance from the College. It is a tertiary care hospital consisting of 642 beds. Khyber Girls Medical College has an impressive Self Learning and Resource Center (SLRC) with Internet Facility, which provides latest information to students and faculty members for their research and learning. Department of Medical Education has started its work to keep the college updated with changing trends in teaching methodologies. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is the need of the day for which workshops and other activities are in process. Students are also engaged in extra curriculum activities.
