We provide to our patients an environment of medical innovation. As an academic medical center, we are among those at the forefront in providing medical treatments and procedures. We strive to be renowned for our ability to combine high-tech medicine with a compassionate, personal touch.

HMC is an autonomous medical institution created under an Act of the provincial assembly of the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is run by an independent Management council under the overall control of the provincial government. HMC comprises of a 720 beds hospital, clinical units of Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI), Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD), Pakistan Institute of Community Ophthalmology (PICO) and Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC). HMC is a university teaching hospital offering primary, tertiary, and quaternary care not only to the citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also to those of the adjoining tribal areas of FATA and Afghanistan. We're extremely proud of our many specialized units such as endocrinology, neurosurgery, pediatric cardiology, Institute of kidney disease, the Center of excellence for ophthalmology and PICO. Through the expertise of KGMC and the PGMI faculty who compose the hospital's medical staff, and with the help of international and national partners we are developing sophisticated resources such as a Level I Trauma Center, Regional Burn Center, and a BSL-3 regional TB laboratory etc. We are proud of the level of care our hospital offers to inpatients as well as outpatients through its extensive clinic system.

In addition to healthcare, teaching is a very important focus of our institution. The hospital maintains residency and fellowships programs in all specialties provided by the College of Physicians & surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). We have around 700 interns, residents and fellows. In addition to the postgraduate training of physicians, the hospital is the clinical teaching site for medical students of KGMC. The hospital also maintains numerous clinical affiliate agreements to serve as a clinical training site for schools of nursing, pharmacy schools, and other higher education institutions throughout the region. HMC is also committed to the latest medical research, offering patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that make available the newest treatment therapies.

While the hospital attracts a robust mix of patients from all backgrounds, it continues its long-standing commitment to serving as a safety net for citizens regardless of financial status. The strength that makes us special is our ability to recognize that, although we are an urban teaching hospital with the latest in medical technology, our medical staff and employees make the difference. We are smaller than the other three autonomous institutions in the province and we see this as an advantage. At times, major academic medical centers can be overwhelming to patients and families. Our hospital is just the right size to allow our staff of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to get to know each other well and form a close-knit team. It also allows us the ability to get to know our patients and families better.

We are extremely pleased to work with our medical staff, the physicians, in providing excellent patient care and advanced technology. Each of our physicians is involved in teaching tomorrow's health care professionals and researching the treatments of the future, as well as providing the latest in patient care both at the hospital and on an outpatient basis. Our paramedics and nurses are committed to excellent care, and implement the core values of our mission into their job performance.
